You can see nebulas in other galaxies if you know how to look. This 50-hour exposure highlights glowing hydrogen and oxygen across NGC 55, a galaxy viewed nearly edge-on. By isolating the specific colors emitted by these elements, astronomers can reveal structures that would otherwise be too faint to notice. NGC 55 is sometimes called the String of Pearls Galaxy.
