The far side of the Moon, as seen by the Apollo 13 crew on their desperate slingshot journey home. The large, dark area to the left is Mare Moscoviense, a lunar mare formed by ancient volcanic eruptions. This view, taken in April 1970, shows a part of the Moon never visible from Earth.
