The Hubble Space Telescope, or HST, is the largest optical telescope in orbit. Its 2.4-meter mirror and position above Earth's atmosphere allow it to capture exceptionally sharp images. Launched in 1990, the HST's optics were repaired in 1993 during the first of several servicing missions.
