Messier 20, the Trifid Nebula, lies about 5,000 light-years away in Sagittarius. It is a star-forming region that illustrates three types of nebulae. There are red emission nebulae from hydrogen atoms, blue reflection nebulae from dust reflecting starlight, and dark nebulae where dense dust clouds appear in silhouette.
