Jupiter, Io, and Ganymede's Shadow

Jupiter, the solar system's largest planet, is seen here alongside Io, its innermost Galilean moon. A dark circular spot on Jupiter's cloud tops, near the left edge, is the shadow cast by Ganymede, Jupiter's largest moon. Jupiter's cloud tops display light bands and dark belts. While mainly hydrogen and helium, the colors likely come from small amounts of heavier elements like sulfur or organic compounds.
