Dark Bok Globules in IC 2944

COSMIC MESSAGE

These dark, dense knots of gas and dust are Bok globules. They are regions where new stars are forming, silhouetted against the bright glow of the IC 2944 emission nebula. These small clouds are found about 6,000 light-years away in the constellation Centaurus.
