This is the best color image of asteroid Gaspra, taken by the Galileo spacecraft. The illuminated part of the asteroid is about 11 miles long. Galileo flew past Gaspra in 1991 on its way to Jupiter, where it arrived in December 1995. The color variations highlight changes in the asteroid's surface.
