COSMIC MESSAGE

Betelgeuse, a red supergiant about 600 light years away, is the first star other than the Sun we have directly imaged. This Hubble Space Telescope image shows a bright, unexplained hotspot on its surface. If Betelgeuse were in our solar system, it would extend past Jupiter's orbit.
