Rampaging Fronts of the Veil Nebula

The Veil Nebula is a remnant of a supernova explosion, with fast-moving blast waves. At the front of these waves, ionized gas rushes out, sweeping up material and breaking atoms into ions and electrons. Hubble Space Telescope observations in 1993 revealed that a blue shock wave was ejected after a red one and has not yet caught up in some areas.
