COSMIC MESSAGE
The DIRBE instrument on NASA's COBE Satellite created this infrared map of the entire sky. Infrared light, with a wavelength of 3.5 microns, can penetrate the dust that normally obscures the center of our Milky Way Galaxy. This false-color image reveals stars hidden from view in visible light, showing the galactic plane.
