COSMIC MESSAGE
The center of the giant galaxy M87 is a dense and violent place. This 1994 Hubble Space Telescope photograph shows a disk of hot gas orbiting the galaxy's core. The rotation speed of this gas indicates the mass of the central object. This object's density is so high that it is likely a black hole.
