This image is a stereo pair of Hale-Bopp, combining two pictures from slightly different viewing angles. The difference was created by the comet's apparent motion as it traveled through the inner Solar System. The pictures were taken 45 minutes apart on March 25th from the Shoshone National Forest in Wyoming. They were then adjusted so the background stars matched, creating a 3D effect.
