Saturn's Rings Seen Sideways

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Saturn's rings are incredibly thin, as this Hubble Space Telescope image from August 1995 shows. The picture was taken when the rings were seen edge-on from Earth. Saturn's largest moon, Titan, is visible on the left, casting a shadow on the planet's cloud tops. Titan's thick atmosphere gives it a brownish color. Four other moons, Mimas, Tethys, Janus, and Enceladus, are also visible just above the ring plane.
