COSMIC MESSAGE
The Sagan Memorial Station's IMP camera, on a pop-up mast, stands about five feet above the surface of Ares Vallis on Mars. This image is one of the first from its new vantage point, showing the Sojourner rover near a rock named Barnacle Bill. Barnacle Bill, about eight to ten inches high, has a variety of surface textures. Sojourner successfully analyzed it with its Alpha Proton X-Ray Spectrometer.
