Galileo discovered a previously unknown halo around Jupiter's rings, shown here as scattered sunlight reveals its faint presence. The halo is composed of very small particles, possibly 100 times smaller than a human hair. These tiny particles are thought to be sustained in the halo by Jupiter's powerful electromagnetic forces.
