Mira A, a red giant star, is one of the few stars whose surface has been resolved, along with Betelgeuse and our Sun. Mira undergoes dramatic pulsations, increasing its brightness by over 100 times in a year. Located about 400 light-years away, Mira can expand to more than 700 times the size of our Sun.
