From the International Space Station, astronaut Matthew Dominick saw an unusual type of lightning just beyond the Earth's edge. It was a gigantic jet, a powerful red and blue flash. This type of lightning has only been known for about 23 years, and it extends upwards towards Earth's ionosphere.
