The Trifid Nebula, Messier 20, in Sagittarius, 5,000 light years away. In visible light, dark dust lanes divide the nebula into three parts. This infrared view shows the dust lanes glowing brightly, radiating more energy than the surrounding gas. This image was recorded by the liquid helium-cooled Midcourse Space Experiment satellite.
