Impact! 65 Million Years Ago
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
What caused the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago? The K-T event, which saw about 70 percent of all species disappear, is often attributed to a large asteroid or comet impacting Earth. Such an impact would generate firestorms, tidal waves, earthquakes, and hurricane winds. More critically, the debris thrown into the atmosphere would have had serious global consequences, blocking sunlight and causing a prolonged winter.
