COSMIC MESSAGE
Mu Cephei is a red supergiant, about 1,500 times the size of our Sun. It is one of the largest stars visible without a telescope. If it replaced the Sun, it would engulf Mars and Jupiter. This star, also known as Herschel's Garnet Star, is extremely red and sits near the edge of emission nebula IC 1396.
