Stars Without Galaxies

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Galaxies are made of stars, but not all stars are in galaxies. The Hubble Space Telescope found about 600 red giant stars adrift in intergalactic space within the Virgo Cluster. This image shows what the night sky would look like from a planet orbiting one of these lonely stars. It would be a stark contrast to Earth's sky, which is filled with stars from our own Milky Way galaxy.
