The Rosette Nebula

COSMIC MESSAGE
The Rosette Nebula, also known as NGC 2237, is an emission nebula in the constellation Monoceros. Inside, the open star cluster NGC 2244 has formed from the nebular material. The strong stellar winds from these young stars have cleared a hole in the nebula's center, leaving a layer of dust and hot gas. Ultraviolet light from the hot cluster stars causes the surrounding gas to glow.
