Mars: Looking For Viking

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

On July 20, 1976, the Viking 1 lander touched down on Mars' Chryse Planitia. Its exact landing site is somewhere in the white rectangle shown in this image. Unfortunately, the Mars Global Surveyor captured a substantial dust storm in the area on April 12. Attempts to find the lander in high-resolution images were unsuccessful due to the dust.
