This synthetic color image from the Mars Global Surveyor's wide-angle camera shows the Elysium Volcanic Region of Mars. Bright clouds hover near the northernmost dome-shaped volcano, Hecates Tholus. The shield volcano Elysium Mons lies about 250 miles south, near the image center, and farther south is Albor Tholus, another dome-shaped volcano with a broad summit basin.
