Galaxy Dwingeloo 1 Emerges

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Sometimes it is hard to see a galaxy for all the stars in our own Milky Way. But if you look closely at the center of this photograph, you will see the spiral galaxy Dwingeloo 1. This nearby galaxy was only discovered recently, in 1994, because much of its light was obscured by dust, gas, and bright stars of our own galaxy.
