The Mir space station, a modular construction bristling with solar panels and antennas, floats above Earth's clouds. This photo was taken from the Space Shuttle Endeavour as it approached Mir. Astronaut Andrew Thomas was picked up by the Space Shuttle Discovery during STS-91, the ninth and last Mir docking mission. Thomas' 4 1/2 month stay culminated the shuttle-Mir program.
