TT Cygni is a cool red giant star with a strong stellar wind. This false-color image, made with millimeter wavelength radio telescopes, shows radio emission from carbon monoxide molecules in the surrounding gas. Carbon stars like TT Cygni are named for the abundance of carbon in their atmospheres.
