Saturnian Aurora

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Saturn's rings are a spectacular sight, but this Hubble Space Telescope image shows another kind of ring: ultraviolet aurora. These auroral displays encircle Saturn's poles, towering over 1,000 miles above the cloud tops. They are caused by energetic charged particles from the solar wind, similar to Earth's aurora.
