Tycho's Supernova Remnant in X-ray

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Tycho Brahe, a Danish astronomer, observed this supernova in 1572. This image shows its remnant, a cloud of gas and dust still expanding centuries later. Supernovae are rare in our galaxy due to obscuring gas, but they occur about once every 30 years in typical spiral galaxies. This one was close enough to be seen clearly from Earth.
