Candidates for a Hypernova

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

These two objects are candidates for hypernovae, explosions even more powerful than supernovae. Hypernovae are thought to result from very massive stars, releasing ten times more energy than conventional supernovae. They were first proposed to explain gamma-ray bursts. Scientists are now searching for visible remnants of these massive explosions to understand their origins and effects.
