The Case of the Missing Supernova

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

About 700 years ago, a supernova explosion should have appeared almost as bright as a full moon, lasting for weeks. However, no historical records mention it. This mystery was uncovered by Wan Chen and Neil Gehrels while studying radioactive elements from the Vela supernova remnant. They deduced an explosion closer and younger than previously thought.
