Loop I is one of the largest structures in the sky, best seen in radio and X-ray maps. Spanning over a hundred degrees, part of it is known as the North Polar Spur. This X-ray image shows Loop I as a thin gas bubble about 700 light-years across. Its center is only about 400 light-years away from us.
