Stars from Eagle's Eggs

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Newborn stars are forming in the Eagle Nebula. This 1995 Hubble Space Telescope image shows evaporating gaseous globules, EGGs, emerging from pillars of molecular hydrogen gas and dust. These giant pillars are light-years long and so dense that gas inside them contracts gravitationally to form stars. Intense radiation from bright young stars causes lower-density material to boil away, exposing dense EGGs.
