NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The center of our Milky Way galaxy is obscured by dust in visible light. However, infrared light can penetrate this dust, revealing nearly a million stars in this image. The Galactic Center, about 30,000 light-years away in Sagittarius, appears on the right. The dark diagonal band shows the plane where our Sun orbits, highlighting the busy environment of the galaxy's heart.
