Four Faces of Mars

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

As Mars rotates, most of its surface becomes visible. During Earth's recent pass between Mars and the Sun, the Hubble Space Telescope captured detailed time-lapse pictures. Dark and light sand and gravel create a blotted appearance, and winds shift these features over time. Visible in these pictures are the north polar cap, made of water ice and dry ice, and clouds including an unusual cyclone.
