M80: A Dense Globular Cluster

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

M80, also known as NGC 6093, is one of about 250 globular clusters in our galaxy. Most of its stars are older and redder than our Sun. Some enigmatic stars appear bluer and younger, which contradicts the idea that all stars in M80 formed at nearly the same time. These unusual stars are known as blue stragglers, and the Hubble Space Telescope helps analyze them.
