NASA's Deep Space 1 probe zoomed past asteroid 9969 Braille, testing its ion drive. This was the closest a spacecraft had ever come to an asteroid at that time. The probe took this picture looking back after the flyby. Braille, formerly 1992 KD, was renamed for Louis Braille, who developed a writing system for the blind.
