COSMIC MESSAGE
Last October, the Space Shuttle Discovery deployed Spartan 201 to monitor the Sun's corona. This spacecraft helped estimate electron density in the corona and calibrated data from the SOHO satellite. Spartan also studied how the Sun changes as it approaches maximum activity. The shuttle's robot arm is seen releasing Spartan into space.
