The W4 Chimney

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Canadian Galactic Plane Survey team imaged a huge chimney of hot gas venting from the Milky Way's plane using radio telescopes. This 'chimney' is part of an ionized gas region known as W4. At the bottom of W4, a very young open cluster of stars, OCl 352, is visible. Scientists are studying how these stars created the W4 superbubble, possibly through supernova explosions or strong stellar winds.
