Blue Straggler Stars in Globular Cluster M53

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

M53, also cataloged as NGC 5024, is one of about 250 globular clusters in our galaxy. Most stars in M53 are older and redder than our Sun. However, some stars, called blue stragglers, appear bluer and younger, challenging the idea that all stars in the cluster formed at the same time.
