Compton Re-entry
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Nine years ago, the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory, a major NASA space telescope, was launched into low Earth orbit. It explored the extreme high-energy universe in gamma rays, photons far more energetic than visible light. Though it exceeded its expected mission life, a gyroscope failure prompted NASA to plan its controlled re-entry.
