COSMIC MESSAGE
The Andromeda Galaxy, also known as M31, is our closest large galactic neighbor. This image shows its spiral arms obscured by lanes of gas and dust. Andromeda is about 2.5 million light-years away and contains a trillion stars. It is on a collision course with the Milky Way, expected to merge in about 4.5 billion years.
