Blue Stragglers In NGC 6397

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Stars in our galaxy are usually too far apart to collide. But in the dense cores of globular star clusters, star collisions may be common. Researchers have evidence that the six closely spaced blue stars in this Hubble Space Telescope image were formed when stars directly collided. This image shows the central region of NGC 6397, a globular cluster about 6,000 light-years away.
