COSMIC MESSAGE

The Ring Nebula, M57, in the constellation Lyra, is a planetary nebula, a shell of gas shed by a dying star. This image from the Hubble Space Telescope shows its distinct ring shape. We are looking directly into what is actually a barrel-shaped cloud of gas, ejected by the central white dwarf star.
