Comet LINEAR Disperses
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The nucleus of Comet LINEAR, once the brightest comet of the year, unexpectedly broke into many smaller pieces around July 25. Astronomers worldwide, including Mark Kidger, observed this event. Since then, they have been searching for fragments and monitoring how quickly the remaining debris fades. The Hubble Space Telescope recently photographed the remnants.
