Boulders litter the surface of asteroid 433 Eros, gleaming in the rays of the setting sun. The brightest boulder, near the bottom center of this image, is about 30 meters across. The NEAR Shoemaker spacecraft took this dramatic view in August 2000 from an altitude of about 50 kilometers. Eros orbits the Sun between 1.13 and 1.78 Astronomical Units.
