A Close-Up of Aurora on Jupiter
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Jupiter has its own aurorae, just like Earth. Charged particles from the Sun are funneled by Jupiter's magnetic field to its poles. When these particles hit the atmosphere, they make the gases glow. The Hubble Space Telescope captured this ultraviolet image of Jupiter's aurorae as bright rings around its poles.
