COSMIC MESSAGE

Mira A is a red giant star that pulses, brightening and dimming over the course of a year. It was the first variable star discovered, about 400 years ago. Mira can expand to more than 700 times the size of our Sun, and it is only 400 light-years away in the constellation Cetus. This image shows its resolved surface, a feat only possible for a few stars.
