Kepler Discovers How Planets Move
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Johannes Kepler, an assistant to Tycho Brahe, used Brahe's meticulous data to describe how planets move. He showed that planets orbit the Sun in ellipses, not perfect circles. Kepler also discovered that planets speed up as they get closer to the Sun and that more distant planets take proportionally longer to complete an orbit.
