Galaxies Of The Virgo Cluster

NASA APOD · Matt BenDaniel
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Virgo Cluster is the closest large collection of galaxies to our own Local Group. This wide field shows many of them, including the giant elliptical galaxy M87 near the bottom. M87 is known to have a supermassive black hole at its center, which blasts out a jet of high-energy particles. The cluster is so large it's hard to capture it all in one view.
